Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect

There are different types of child abuse, the most common are physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. Physical abuse is an aggression to another person, in this case it would be a child. Physical abuse consists in beating, kicking, biting, burning, pinching, etc. Many parents can fall into child abuse charges when punishing a child goes too far. If the physical punishment pushes into body injury then its abuse. Ways to see when a child is beating physically abused are cuts, bruises, burns, and afraid of going home.  

Sexual abuse is any sexual act between and adult and a child. That’s including penetration, rape, oral stimulation, touching private area, not respect personal space or performing sexual acts in front of a child. Usually the abusers are close relatives, babysitters, teachers, neighbors or friends. To spot a child that is being sexually abuse, you would need to focus on their behavior. Common signs are fear of a particular person, interest on sexual topics, knowledge on sexual acts, and aggression. 

Psychological abuse is when a child best psychological interest in not met. In other words, when a child is being insulted, it’s made believe that everything is going on its their fault and guilty of something they have no control of. Usually this type of abuse comes with any other type of abuse. common inflicted of this abuse are siblings, parents, teachers, and bullies. this type of abuse could be the worse from all because it’s hard to battle something that its internal and cannot be shown. Also, this type of abuse can carry to adulthood without being heal or treated. 

There is another type of abuse called neglection. this type of abuse its different from the rest, because from other types of abuse it requires action. For example, to inflict physical abuse on a child, you have to act on it and hit him and cause an injury. On the other hand, neglect is an abuse related to lack of action. It is to stop doing something that is necessary for the wellbeing of the child. Failure to provide food, appropriate cloths, love, affection, and hygiene essentials. Usually children that are neglected tend to have unappropriated clothing for the weather, always hungry and have a bad appearance and scent.  

Children must be able to have a safe environment in which they can enjoy being children. Any type of abuse should not be tolerated and when any sign of abuse arise it must be reported to the right authority. We have to make sure to make a better world for our children.
